What’s in My Calm Down Kit (And Why You Should Make One Too)
School life can be amazing, but let’s be honest—it can also be super stressful.
Between juggling homework, sports, friends, and all the emotions that come with growing up, there are days when I just need a break from everything.
That’s why I created something I like to call my “calm down kit.”
It’s a small collection of things that instantly make me feel grounded and remind me that whatever I’m feeling is temporary.
Everyone’s kit looks different, but today I’m sharing what’s in mine and why each item means so much to me.

1. A Pen and My Journal
The very first thing in my kit is my journal and a good pen.
Writing has always been one of the best ways for me to process my emotions.
Sometimes, when I’m frustrated, sad, or just overwhelmed, I don’t even know how to explain what I’m feeling out loud—but putting it on paper helps me figure it out.
I’ll write everything down what happened, how I felt, what I wish I could say, or even just random thoughts.
There’s something freeing about seeing your feelings take shape as words on a page.

Plus, going back and reading old entries reminds me that I’ve gotten through tough days before, and I can do it again.

Next in my kit is something that might seem a little childish to some people—but I don’t even care.
It’s one of my childhood stuffed animals that I’ve had forever.

On nights when I’m especially anxious or sad, hugging that stuffed animal makes me feel safe.

There’s something really therapeutic about physical activity, even when it’s something as simple as tossing a ball around.
It’s like all the negative energy just drains away, and I’m left feeling lighter.
Volleyball isn’t just a sport for me—it’s a way to reconnect with myself and have fun, even on rough days.

Instead of bottling up my feelings or ignoring them, I face them head-on—with a pen, a hug from my stuffed animal, or a quick volleyball session.
It’s my way of saying to myself, “Hey, it’s okay to feel what you’re feeling, and you’re going to get through this.”
